Steering and suspension components are among the most heavily stressed parts of any vehicle. Especially when it comes to control arms, ball joints or bushings, quality is key - these components face extreme forces, day in and day out. With its two product lines, MEYLE ORIGINAL and MEYLE HD, MEYLE sets new standards in terms of precision, fit and durability.
But what exactly drives this engineering approach? And how does an OE part become a MEYLE HD component?
Data-driven precision: the development of MEYLE ORIGINAL
Every new part begins with the OE component as a reference. Using 3D scanning, MEYLE engineers capture exact geometric data to develop a replacement that mirrors the original in shape, function and quality. In addition, each part undergoes seal integrity tests, climate simulations and corrosion analysis - crucial factors, particularly in the steering and suspension category.
One example: MEYLE applies special testing procedures to its ball joints to ensure no moisture or dirt can penetrate, helping prevent premature wear or failure. Only when all quality standards are met does the part enter series production as a MEYLE ORIGINAL component.
More than OE: the path to MEYLE HD
But MEYLE doesn’t stop at replication. Whenever an OE part fails prematurely under real workshop conditions or shows potential for improvement, the MEYLE HD re-engineering process begins.
A prime example is the HD control arm for Mercedes W205/W213. The OE ball joint in this application often failed too early. Due to lack of space, increasing the size of the entire ball joint wasn’t feasible. MEYLE’s solution: redesign the internal ball pin to a larger diameter - without changing the outer shape. The result: reduced surface pressure, lower wear and significantly longer service life.
These kinds of optimisations are only possible thanks to precise analysis, simulation and testing - carried out in MEYLE’s in-house quality lab. Every HD component undergoes rigorous testing for durability, strength and performance under extreme conditions.
Conclusion: two product lines, one quality promise
With MEYLE ORIGINAL, workshops receive OE-compliant parts with guaranteed precision fit. With MEYLE HD, they get the option to upgrade - more durable, more robust and backed by a 4-year guarantee*.
For everyone who wants more than just a replacement—who wants a real improvement.
