MEYLE – our commitment towards sustaining the future
From the outset, sustainable and long-term development have been the foundations of our business. Company founder Wulf Gaertner wanted to build a business focusing on providing a long-term livelihood for its employees and himself rather than chasing short-term profit.
This is the legacy and guiding principle of our voluntary social and ecological commitment.
We start with the small every-day things, for example by choosing a local supplier of mineral water bottled in glass . This way we help reduce waste and save resources while supporting the local trade. Why? Simply because we believe that nobody should live at the expense of someone else in far-flung corners of the world nor at the expense of future generations.
This policy has earned us a positive environmental track record – and the Environmental Award from Partslife. Partslife is an initiative dedicated to developing solutions for the environmentally-friendly disposal of used parts and waste and providing companies with expert advice on energy efficiency and ecological management.
Corporate social commitment at MEYLE
At MEYLE, we share a firm believe that social responsibility must not stop at one's doorstep. On the contrary: We reach out to people on the opposite side of the world to give them good prospects for their future. We consider giving back to the community our responsibility in order to help others build a better and sustainable future.
Each year, we donate to SOS Children's Villages and other charity and aid projects – for example the Sternenbrücke children's hospice in Hamburg.
We go the extra mile for our employees because we want them to stay with us. For example, we subsidise lunch in our in-house staff restaurant and public transport tickets. We offer our employees a wide range of social benefits and actively promote them to shape and drive personal and professional growth. After all, not for nothing have we been voted a "Top Job Employer" five times.
Ecological commitment at MEYLE
We encourage our people to act in a way which is environmentally responsible. This includes safeguarding resources and preventing waste. To support consistent waste separation and recycling we use separate containers.
In addition, we are a member of the "CO2-neutral website" initiative – the lion's share of our financial support is used to fund world climate projects.
Naturally, the principles of green building have played a major role in the design and construction of the new warehouse and staff restaurant (completed in 2014): we have a green roof, triple-glazed windows and an air-conditioning system with integrated heat recovery. On a side note: in 2017, our beautiful roof garden won the "Hamburg Award for Green Architecture".
