The new no-hassle screw

The new wheel carrier fixing screw with anti-corrosion multi-layer finish makes it much easier for car mechanics to remove and install VW and Audi multi-link suspensions.

To deliver on its quality promise Wulf Gaertner Autoparts AG has been re-engineering control arm kits that now surpass the performance of their OE equivalents. The Hamburg-based manufacturer offers repair professionals full-service kits such as its package for VAG control arm axle repair, as wear of the part’s main components may also involve the connecting elements. Wulf Gaertner Autoparts AG therefore recommends replacing both parts per axle.

The upper control arm on VW, Passat, Skoda Superb, Audi A4, A6 and A8 models built from 1995 onward is notorious for being difficult to remove, frequently requiring special tools and

sometimes even causing damage to the wheel carrier. One reason is the use of different materials: aluminium for the wheel carrier and steel for the fixing screw. This triggers a chemical reaction between the two materials leading to contact and crevice corrosion making it difficult to loosen the screw.

The new MEYLE no-hassle screw has eliminated this problem once and for all. It consists of a zinc-nickel alloy, a passivated thick film and a final black cataphoretic coating. The multi-layer finish proved its long-lasting corrosion resistance in a 480-hour salt-spray endurance test. The screw is therefore much easier to remove than conventional screws with a lower-grade finish or no finish at all. This entirely eliminates the need for special tools.

The new screw is included in the mounting hardware shipped with every MEYLE-HD control arm kit for full-service VW and Audi multi-link suspensions.
