MEYLE Platinum Pads – high performance brake pads for the highest level of safety in any situation
Hamburg, April 21, 2015. Brakes are one of the most safety-relevant components in a vehicle, and in serious situations they can save lives. MEYLE's sophisticated brake pads, available under the name, MEYLE Platinum Pads, have a new friction lining compound that meets the highest requirements and delivers a special quality of comfort. Not only are they free of copper and heavy metals, they also stand out on account of their safe braking behaviour at high temperatures and the extremely low levels of noise generated.
A performance test conducted by one of the largest independent car testing sites in the world has proved that MEYLE Platinum Pads ensure short braking distances and guarantee safe braking in any situation. Automotive Testing Papenburg GmbH (ATP) used three test sequences to examine the behaviour of standard brake pads in direct comparison with MEYLE Platinum Pads.
The first test was conducted in two identical Audi Q7 models – MEYLE Platinum Pads were developed among other things to meet the increased requirements of heavy high end cars and SUVs.
In a braking test on a dry track, the car with the MEYLE brake pads came to a stop faster, thereby gaining crucial metres which could be decisive in dangerous situations. The µ split test on a simulated, half wet, half snow-covered track showed how the brakes react in tough driving conditions, i.e. whether the car brakes in a straight line in a stable fashion. This test, too, was won by the car carrying the MEYLE Platinum Pads. Braking behaviour in extreme situations was tested on the high-speed track as part of the high-speed fade test. For this test, ten braking procedures were carried out in succession with no regeneration time with the result that the brakes reached temperatures far in excess of 650°C. The stable friction coefficient confirms this product's top performance. This series of tests was repeated with small and medium-sized cars: the MEYLE Platinum Pads also achieved the best results in the BMX X1 and VW Golf V.
The results at a glance:
| Dry track | µ split test |
Audi Q7 | MEYLE: 23.35m Production brake pad: 23.49m | MEYLE: 61.37m Production brake pad: 61.89m |
BMW X1 | MEYLE: 25.85m Production brake pad: 26.67m | MEYLE: 60.94m Production brake pad: 61.16m |
VW Golf V | MEYLE: 24.50m Production brake pad: 25.47m | MEYLE: 59.41m Production brake pad: 60.48m |

Extensive, independent tests carried out in real-time conditions have therefore demonstrated the outstanding characteristics of the MEYLE Platinum Pads with regard to braking behaviour and friction coefficient. But the brake pads from the manufacturer from Hamburg not only impress when it comes to safety, they also meet high environmental standards without any loss of comfort or performance. Three-layer, silver shims attached to the back of the brake pad's support plate and glued together, complete the MEYLE Platinum Pads. A further benefit of MEYLE Platinum Pads is that they are subjected to heat treatment in a so-called "scorching" process at the end of the production process. The result is that the brake pads require a shorter run-in period after installation and can be tested to the limit.
